Lower Long Churn

Ric, Dave, Mr Fell & Mrs Fell, Frog (and Salty Dog) and Rachel met in Inglesport Cafe and planned a descent of Lower Long Churn. Once beverage mugs had been drained we set off for Alum Pot Lane - which, despite the early hour, was occupied already by a contingent of YSS, who were also out for a days sport.Five of us were soon changed and ready to venture into `the land of double darkness'.Mrs Fell remained on the surface to undertake landscape photograpy - together will canine assistance no less.

Although Long Churn is so popular and has masses of people visiting, on a weekly basis, I am always surprised that it seems so relatively well preserved. On the way in there was more speculation about the nature of Frog`s van (see the Short Drop post). At one point I overheard a conversation about the relative merits of `handcuffs instead of knots' - so your guess is as good as mine.

We made our way to Dolly Tubs and the right hand side was rigged and three descended and took in the fine views of the open pot, and the YSS members on the SW route.

Once back up Dolly Tubs we made our way out via Cross Passage and took in Dr Bannister`s just for good measure. It is a while since I have been in Upper Long Churn and I had forgotton just how grand the stream passage was.

Once out, we were soon dressed and back to Inglesport for some grub.Next Sunday it is Rachel`s birthday - so she is going to pick a trip somewhere. :D

And I wasnt even in my van!
Had fun today.
Good steady trip with a difference!
No fish in Dr Bannisters Handbasin though. Saw a cave fish last time I was there (about 10 years ago).

THIS IS A GOOD THING ME THINKS  Maybe the YSS were staying close to their cave hut knowing 200+ students were staying there

Getting back on track... ahem... who was who then? There was a chap with a beard, his younger apprentice and others.

Captain Salty was the hairy one with the rather smart red polo neck jumper and bodywarmer!

The hairy one = grey? Was it you I was talking to as we climbed out of the Dolly Tubs chamber and met our mates?
