Mines of the Cambrian mountains

Hi, I've been exploring my local mines after doing some research on them but it's a lonely business and a risky one when I'm heading in on my own on most occasions. Wondered if there were any powys cambrian explorers who would like to explore the lead mines between llanidloes and Aberystwyth. My local mine is the van mines. Pen y Clun is a little obscure but does anyone know if it carries on past the shaft, there is talk of a collapse but the local landowner seems to think it passes the collapse and carries on for quite a way.

Your best bet is to get involved with the Welsh Mines Society. They are most active in the metal mines of mid wales area.

Chris.

There are a couple of people in Llanidloes who have an interest in the local mines, and some have certainly explored some of the them. Funnily enough a couple of us got together last week to look at a map of all the stuff up in Hafren.

I think we were talking before on aditnow. I have explored a few around the Hafren, and would definitely be interested in sharing maps and info if you guys would be happy to.

Thank you. I will. They are a treasure trove of info, I don't know why I haven't really.

Hi Mike,

I know the same book seller as I do like to browse the listings. I have David Bicks Metal Mines of MidWales. I have 1 and 2 and 4 (I think I still have 4, but I did let someone borrow it so need to chase it...)  Number 1 has actually been signed by the great man himself.

I don't have George Halls but have read some pieces online.

Will have a look at the store now you've reminded me to.

Many thanks,

Liz
