Mobile Phone use in Outdoor Activities Questionnaire

Hi,

I'm a student at the University of Lancashire.

Myself and two other students are currently working on a mini research project on how mobile phones are used before, during, and after land-based outdoor activities (including caving), and what their impact is.

I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone would be willing to complete our questionnaire.

It's live until end of day on Sunday 8th February, and is available at https://qualtricsxm9smqhmllk.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8wR6dDOovHcsyIC

Many thanks,
Dan

Well. Unless I completely misunderstood it, my mobile phone use is completely unrelated to my activity…
That's absolutely a valid answer, and we'd welcome it on the survey!

Our main focuses for the research is how often (or if) are phones used before/during/after activities, and what impact (positive and negative) they have.

I use my phone to check the weather and river cams, arrange trips on WhatsApp, check out other people's trip reports on UK Caving to build context in my head, log my own trips, take photos, update my callout, etc. however I recognise that doesn't mean everyone does, and we'd like as much data as possible on if/how phones are actually used for as many different land activities as possible, as well as different views on their impact on those activities.

But you can't, the only options are before, during and after.
You should be able to leave the question "Do you use a mobile phone before, during and or after the following activities? (tick all that apply)" blank, to indicate you don't use a phone at any point.

You can then answer the agree/disagree statements (and text based questions if you would like though these are optional) based on what effect you think using your phone could/would have if you did use it in the future, or based on what you see when other people use their phones for activities.

When you say 'mobile phone' are you just talking about the communication device. Using a 'mobile phone' underground sounds odd to me. 'During' a caving activity I might use the camera or a stored survey, etc., but that sounds different to how I read your survey questions. Probably just me :)

Made me think about how much I do use my phone, I would say I am not a heavy phone user, but after this survey I will have to stop saying that
