I’m going up to Devon next week because I want to go to a couple of mines but I’m going to go to the cave mentioned as well just for a bit of extra practice.

My advice would be, take yourself off to Easegill caverns, do something like Top sink to Lancaster and back, on your own and see how you get on route finding etc.
If it all goes tits up and you find yourself lost, at least someone might come along in a couple of days and find you.
