Mount Olympus

Hi all.

I’ve put a post up on Facebook (cavers of Facebook) and not had much reply.

I’ve been interested in Mount Olympus for some years now since visiting it, it has the greatest elevation from sea level and it’s peak is at just over 2900m.

From a little research I’ve learnt it has Triassic and Jurassic limestone, possibly crustaceous in general.

There is springs on the mountain and water does resurge out of the sides. There are also phreatic remnant caves lower down.

There is a ski centre on the top and the mountain is used for winter mountaineering, so well visited.

What struck me most was when visiting the sign showed deep snow holes that the skiers avoid.

I’m intrigued if anyone else has looked at this as a prospect before. I’m also looking to contact the ski resort owner or any geologists that have written geology papers on the mountain.

Hopefully I can get some help here as the people I’ve contacted so far have not responded.

Kind regards, Mike
