New Student Caving Club - Seeking Donations

Hey everyone!

Staffordshire University Caving Club (SUCC) is currently in the process of being set-up and is hopefully going to be a brand new student caving club! Throughout the process of setting up the club, we have been working with the BCA's Youth and Development officer, Isaac. We've also been working with CHECC and Birmingham Caving Club (Kai).

We are seeking any donations for gear so that we can build up our kit store (even if it needs repairing). We are after any caving gear that people are okay to donate to us. This includes things such as oversuits, wellies, bags etc. As mentioned we are happy to take things that need repairing!

Thankyou in advance, please message me here or drop me an email at admin@gouncharted.net if you are able to help out!

I have an old Troll tackle bag full of old kit which was stored in a dry cupboard under the stairs for over a decade(ish). Obviously, the material stuff is suspect but the metal stuff should be OK. It's so long since I looked at it I'm not sure exactly what's in there (apart from my old Petzl helmet which is in the top part). If you're heading into the Dales some time perhaps we could meet up for you to take a look? I'm out shortly but I'll have a look inside the bag later to see what exactly is in there. At least the sack should be worth having.

That would be perfect! Like we said anything helps so this is really appreciated! :)

I may be at the Dales this weekend at the NPC hut with some of TSG, if so I should be able to meet up with you and take a look?

Callum - I'll try to call in at the NPC this weekend - I'd like to see the TSG folks anyway, as I'm a member myself.
I have a suggestion for you. If paths don't cross, PM me next week.

OK, I've tipped the sack out and here's the metalwork. Some of the harnesses and belts seem quite sturdy but I know they're well beyond their safe working life so I wouldn't be happy giving them away. That thing with the bars is a Lewis rack and there are a few unused bars in the bag if anyone's game to take it on? I used to use it before I went on to Stops. There's an old Clog ascender there too which was my very first! I have some climbing kit to donate as well if you're interested (various krabs).
I might be able to get to Greenclose this weekend - Sunday most likely?

Thankyou so much! We'd be more than happy to take anything your comfortable with donating, understandably you said the harnesses are not particularly safe, which is fair enough.

As for the climbing kit that would be brilliant, like I say anything helps. Which I really appreciate, so thankyou so much!

Sunday works absolutely fine, if you can make then. If not that's also okay - If your at HE this year feel free to also drop stuff off there if it makes it easier for you!

I should be able to get to Greenclose after 10 am this Sunday and bring the sack along.

Many years ago my student club managed to negotiate a substantial discount from a certain well know caving shop by promising to spend the clubs gear budget from the student union and buy any kit the members required all on the same day. Don’t forget the power of haggling!

Missed you this morning Callum - but I discussed this with Kai, who will pass on the information I gave to him.
