Notts III rope

Does anyone know if the fixed rope up to inlet whatever-it-is that lets you sneak round to Notts III from the bottom end of Notts II still exists?

It should be, however after severe flooding(Storm Denis I think) the rope was carried up the pitch so you couldn't reach it. I think it was re-bolt climbed to free it and drop it down. Could always happen again.

The two times I've been there in full diving kit in recent years (can't remember when, sorry) I just crawled straight through. So its well worth sticking your head into the crawl to see if its passable. It wasn't a hideous duck either.

Agree with Emsy; it does unroof in dry weather.

If the rope up to the overhead route has floated out of reach in a flood, it's possible to go through the intermittent sump once things have dried up to sort it out from above (i.e. without having to re-bolt up to it, which I guess also has conservation implications).

In case anyone needed more proof for some reason, the rope's in decent condition and is belayed to a Yorkshire Terrier sized boulder at the bottom.

The deviation snapped on me when descending, but my underground colleague @rm128 kindly replaced it. If anyone wants to reclaim the rotten krab let me know, otherwise I'll send it for destruction testing...

On the subject of the sump, there appeared to be airspace as far as the eye could see from both ends last night. I wouldn’t have wanted to do it as a duck, but maybe it’s a sign that it does open up more than people think.

Is someone actively digging in Inlet 17 at the moment?

The rope was definitely there a few weeks ago, it seems to be tied down with a hose to stop it floating up the pitch. I personally won't trust it as I went up there years ago and they anchors were very rusty then.
