Hi everybody,
The access system for Ogof Gofan, which is on Range East, remains unchanged after 10 years of it being "introduced experimentally". Before that there was no legal access for many years, so please respect these arrangements which are working out well for everyone.
As most cavers likely know, OG is a top conservation site. So there is only one group (of up to 4 people) permitted per day and when the firing range is not in use. Please apply through me although it is the National Park Authority which ultimately issues permits on behalf of the landowner. NRW have approved the present system. It's best to allow at least 5 working days to turn around a permit, issued by email as pdf. Your group is then guaranteed to have exclusive cave access on the date of your choice.
If you want to explore the small caves or blow holes on Range West, or go prospecting for more of them, then that area has a different access system because of the more intense military activity. You would have to attend one of the safety briefing meetings in person at the range to get a personal permit valid for a year or so. This doesn't entitle you to take companions (or dogs) on to the firing range as they (not the dog) would have to attend a safety briefing meeting too. I would add that if you see any military debris, do not touch it because it might explode.
There is a link on the home page of the caving.wales website.
I will supply visitors with a pdf guide to reaching and rigging the cave along with a nice survey when permits are issued.
