Oversuit repair

I've got an AV oversuit which is less than a year old, the velcro has started detaching from the main front closure, on the body side. The stitches are still in the oversuit material but seems to have pulled through the velcro. In parts this is along one edge of the velcro, but down towards the bottom this is on both sides.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Or does anyone have a good idea on the best way to fix it?

I don't own a sewing machine (and haven't used one for a couple of decades!), the suit is currently moderately muddy. I'm not sure if washing before fixing will make it worse...

Also if anyone knows someone good round Leeds/Skipton for replacing under suit zips, any tip offs are welcome!

Does happen occasionally.
  • Clean (just cleaning the affected area is fine).
  • Glue (flexible glue e.g. aquasure/seamgrip etc).
  • Compress on a flat surface and leave to dry.
Use insulating tape/clingfilm if required to avoid gluing whatever you are using as a weight to compress to your suit. Note that the glue will not set as quickly if air can't get to it, so after peeling off the tape additional drying time will be required.
I use insulating tape quite successfully with Seamgrip for things like getting a bead of glue around the edge of a square of neoprene glued to the inside of a kneepad. The tape (even sticky side on the glue) peels easily off the Seamgrip - for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to bond despite PVC being a 'high surface energy plastic'...

Lancashire Sports Repairs are often recommended (although I've not used them myself).

I spoke to a few gear repair companies around the country a few months ago to check which of them would handle caving gear repairs, you can see the list here, or screenshot below:

The owners of the shop in Bentham that used to supply fabrics and accessories for repairing outdoor gear are now retired, but their web site links to Profabrics, who supply similar items.
