Oxlow, fixed handline between 3rd and 4th pitch

skippy

I don't want to spark a debate about fixed aids etc. However, is there still a fixed handline between the 3rd and 4th pitch?
I recall there being quite a chunky blue handline.. but it did come up a little short before the pitch head.

We were in Maskhill Mine and Oxlow Cavern last Saturday and all the pitches down to the West Chamber were already rigged but no one else was in either cave/mine. We rigged our own ropes but whether the rope was already there in West Swirl Passage (sloping ramp between 3rd and 4th pitches) or had been rigged by this other group I'm not sure.

OK..Cheers Paul.
Probably best to take one anyway.

I never take one for west swirl passage, there is usually a coloured rope on there which has been threaded. It should be fairly hard to remove (due to the length of re thread) for good reason it’s a nice piece of rope to have in there. I know where the rope came from a few years back and know it’s come (and been donated) from a really good home!

The first time I went down there in early student days of 1993 the ramp wasn’t, it was a series of steps and short pitches created by barriers of timbers holding it all back. The next time we went the whole lot was at the bottom in the chamber and there was that lovely ramp.
