Parc Mine - red rope

Yeah that's it. We were looking at it from the bottom wondering what was at the top! So there is an entrance near Kneebones that leads straight to the top of the rope?

yes buddy, you can see the cutting from the fire road above, about 30 feet long, its been partly back filled but easy to slip in through an iron gate and in, interesting inside worth a look and a fun abseil down although wet

yeah where you looking up into it or down? there's a drain pipe that runs half way down someone's put in, would be nice idea if it went all the way down tho lol kinda ends ring where there's a small undercut and you get soaked.. got a short video somewhere i think....
Guilty as charged. We tried to divert the water into drainpipes to make it more comfortable when we first dropped the shaft. There was a lot of debris to clear so it took a few visits. At the time, we had no idea we were going to drop into Parc 3 so it was rather a surprise when Simon and I found ourselves in that familiar level. Also rather relief that we wouldn't have to prussic back up but could scoot around the usual route instead.

Nice to hear others have found that shaft. It'd be a nice backup if Fucheslas ever gets blocked.

You legend 🙌🙌😂

Its a great descent to be fair, I might actually extend the pipe tho, bit grim the last 25 feet 😂

Defo easier to rope in and take the ladders out tho 👌

Don't try it now while the bats are resident, but we also opened up the shaft next to the Bidston tidal experiment area (cleared the rubbish from the bottom). It drops to Parc 3 a few metres upstream of the usual ore hopper. Really nice ab down, though could do with a deviation to stop the rope going "ping".

In the early 90's when we installed the surge dam in No.3, we used a small winze from a short adit just above Kneebone. We put in plastic pipes to shoot the concrete down for the dam. The pipe was fed by a klondyke style wriggly tin chute that the concrete lorries, parked on the track could deliver into. After we had finished we put a concrete cap over the winze as it was only just inside the short adit and would be easy to fall down. The adit was then fitted with a fixed grill.
I you go just outbye of the dam and look up you will see the winze, it has loads of concrete splatter down the walls!

In the 90's there were three big schemes to rectify problems and make stuff safe. We had the contract for the first two, which were mainly mining type work. The final phase went to Jones Bros. of Ruthin and was mainly earthworks, including the Parc reservoir.
As well as the surge dam we capped a load of shafts, sealed Cyfty adit and reopened Hafna adit. Plus we put bat grills on everything!

Sadly you're out of luck for an apprenticeship, I have now retired. Only go underground for fun now. :D

I remember visiting Aberllyn in the late 90's when that was being gated. We happened to arrive when floor 3 (or maybe 4) had been dug open by a mini excavator, which was still sat by the portal. So we went in and had a very good exploration.
Next time we visited, the gates were up!

Was that you as well Les?

No, we didn't do that one. After the main works I believe the forestry paid for a few extras to a local contractor to do the bits they wanted gating.
