Not sure if this counts as no caves or mines involved but....

Many Years ago I opened the door into a Gents toilets rather exuberantly, only to find I had fetched the Rev'd Ian Paisley a rather hefty clout with the other side of it. His shouty response didn't disappoint!

Hahah - nice work. He definitely asked for it. I've got a few celebrity incidents, just not caving-related ones. And one includes vomit, so probably not suitable at all  :halo:

My most surprising (non caving) celeb encounter was Princess Anne in the public toilets at the Kent County Horse Show - around 1972!  It a two day show and we stayed overnight in the horse box. Next morning early I went to do what one does in the morning and she was there cleaning her teeth! She did say good morning! That would never happen today.

When the DCC were clearing the Hough Level and we had the railway operating we often had visitors walking along the footpath at the bottom of the Edge who paused for a chat - I remember Bill Roach (Ken Barlow iirc) from the Corrie cast was a frequent visitor.

Todge always said that the house at the end of Hough Lane (Edge end) was owned by the last person to be executed at Strangeways.

It certainly wouldn't. Though I hope you let her finish cleaning her teeth before you did what you do in the morning. Wasn't there a washbasin? How the mighty are fallen  ;)

I only know about this from a facebook post I saw a few years back but didn't John Whalley spend some time caving with Neil Armstrong on an expedition?

In 1976, Neil Armstrong was a member of the BCRA expedition to Cueva de los Tayos, Ecuador.

Just back from a conference in Seattle and spent a week in Olympic afterwards and during a rain-enforced confinement to my motel, among the endless TV shopping channels and other nonsense, happened to flick the TV onto this, which although rather American, was quite interesting (and talked about Neil Armstrong's involvement in the expedition): https://expeditionunknown.fandom.com/wiki/Hunt_For_The_Metal_Library

Took Willy Thorne the Snooker Player and his glamorous other half down Speedwell when I worked there....Got a decent tip if I remember rightly..
