Peak Cavern survey

Whilst I was scanning and creating the table of contents for the new Peak Cavern volume in the BCRA Online Archive, I put a Deep Zoom version of the superb TSG Peak Cavern survey onto the Braemoor website so I could try to get some sense out of the exploration reports. This was originally just for my own use, but I have been given permission to make it publicly available. I hope that it is found useful. I have certainly got a lot of fun out of it.

It may be found here: https://www.braemoor.co.uk/caving/peakcavern.shtml

It is worth comparing with the survey as it was in 1959: https://archives.bcra.org.uk/?level=image&collection=bsa&document=ES246&item=138 (best viewed at the highest magnification).

Great to see it on your website.

The copy you have is the bespoke copy, which was created for speedwell mine - as it makes more sense to have speedwell at the bottom of the page like a tree trunk with all of the other cave and mine passages coming off it like branches.

The one in general circulation is orientated north. And so looks “normal” for cavers.

It is pleasing to see the speedwell copy in the public domain, as it took some work for me and Wayne to orientate in that direction. Thank you for sharing!

I originally used that version as I was viewing the survey as if looking at it from the Peak Cavern entrance. I'm quite happy to put the orthodox version on as well. It is a fantastic survey.

I've now turned it upside down to put north on top.
