I had a very memorable trip down Peterson's this weekend, and did a write up. Enjoy!

Reminds me of Kama Sutra 2 in Slaughter Stream Cave. During the resurvey I couldn't get round the first bend and don't intend to try again. As one of our friends said -'leave it to the halflings'. To the credit of the younger, smaller and more flexible team, they did it twice - once to explore second to survey. Respect.

You have to go to the bottom (two more pitches than the escape to Easegill) and back out to get your black book tick :) (and arguably you need to bring all the rope to rig it and not use the in-situ ropes).

The main thing that convinced us to go *back* through Roly-Poly Passage (and getting into it uphill is hard work) and not bail out through Mistral was that then we would have the tick and would *never have to go in Peterson Pot again* ;)

Hardest 130ish(?) metre long cave I've ever done, anyway. A lot of that difficulty was dragging the bag with the ropes for the bottom three pitches; would have been relatively easy without a bag I think (but then I am small and bendy).

I'll note down to avoid kama sutra 2, and send an Andrew or equivalent instead if for some reason someone needs to go there!

No full black book tick for me, and not sure there ever will be, good effort doing it properly! We only had 1 bag between the 2 of us for the pull through rope and srt kit, and Pete didn't make that sound like it brought him great joy. I wasn't having a terrible time in the tube until I was, and a bag would definitely have made it orders of magnitude harder for sure, particularly in the keyhole bit!

Turns out we didn't even need the rope for the pull through anyway as there was something in situ.

You did a brilliant job and thanks for the write-up. I am sure many of us have been in similar mind worrying moments.
A small extension in Redhouse back few months ago I pushed the end squeeze in a dig convinced it was larger beyond. By the time I realised that it wasn't I was committed and couldn't reverse back. There then followed and even tighter, although less awkward squeeze uphill, into fortunately a much large passage beyond.
If it hadn't been without Dan and Rhys widening behind me I would never have got back. We all had to reverse backwards and the downward entry from above would have been impossible to reverse uphill.
Stupidly I had left my lunch the other side of the squeezes so my stomach and energy levels prevented me from enjoying the virgin exploration, albeit pretty short sadly.
Rhys christened the find 'Estyniad heb Brechdannau' which summed it up really.

Cheers! Oof, that sounds memorable. It's one thing squeezing into known tight bits, another altogether to be squeezing into the unknown. Good choice of name!

Have just read the trip report - well written and perfect at putting me off ever going down there! 😁

Thanks! I don't mean to put people off, just appreciate what can happen if it goes wrong for you.

Don't worry - Peterson Pot has never been on my bucket list. Did enjoy the trip report though, riveting :)
