What makes a great photo ? Maybe a hard one to answer so lets put it this way. What makes a fun photo ? For me there has to be the element of surprise. An image not posed but taken at just the right time and never to be repeated. I was photographing in the choke when he came up behind me. I just had time to chuck the torch behind my body , swing the camera and catch us both laughing. Ten seconds later the image was gone.

Got to spend some time in my new „home turf“ limestone, but over 400km away from the Dachstein as the crow flies! Guess that Tethys sea was kind of large.

Anyway, no sizeable caves but some interesting Kaolinite mining remnants and fun with UV (guided tour), definitely has me tempted to get a torch! Examples of fluorescence and phosphorescence below (just taken with my phone, excuse the poor quality).

I particularly enjoyed how crystallisation layers appearing homogeneous to the naked eye were easily differentiated under UV.

Nice angle, works well as the lamps aren't blinding the lens.
Thanks Bagpuss. I had to sit there watching and waiting for the right moment when the top persons arm was not obscuring his face and the bottom man not looking at me. About 5 in the set so that one worked best. I caught the fleeting expressions spot on. I had charged the LED torch batteries but somehow they died before the trip. I guess if its important its best to have a spare set.
