When I was researching the trip, after a lot of sleuthing I managed to find some photos from an imperial trip but that was all. It would be great if someone who really knows their way around underground photography could get some photos of Megatron. It is such an epic pitch and it's a shame there are not any photos of it.
It just so happens I returned last weekend with both Imperial, and a camera!

Unfortunately, all I had for light was headtorches, so I really struggled to light the people

Great to have some photos of it. Yea it's not just tall but a sizeable chamber, I would imagine you would need some flash guns to really light it up. Those pictures are great, really get a sense of it's size and grandeur.

It would work on a TG Camera with live composite mode. Everyone would have to be still though. Easier just to use a couple of wide beam LED torches. Looks to be a long exposure in the images.

I'd never heard of live composite mode before, is there an easy way to replicate it in post?

Yes, it's a 15 second exposure to light the chamber with shorter 1-2 second exposures and higher ISO to catch the subject.

LIve composite mode on Olympus TG Cameras is simple but needs some practice. The camera has to be on a tripod and the models still for about 30 seconds. You then " paint " the image with a torch looking carefully at the result on the camera. A final touch up with an editor might help. Downside is that big expanses can look a bit flat. This is The Frozen Deep on LCM.
Just the two of us and minimal time.
Using the TG on I auto with flash off the system will default to maximum aperture then ramp up the ISO. Second image done that way. Same trip.

Time and effort are always a compromise. Everything I do is trip related with no set ups.

Hope this post is seen as helpful not just another chance for a splodge.

That's very helpful, thank you! Those pictures are amazing for a quick setup! Does it work well with back lighting or coming from other angles?

I expect it does. I have always said that cave photography can be simple and inexpensive. I suppose after many years you just get a feel for it. I know I should not waffle on too much on this thread but I hope that we can see lots more here from other cave photographers.

A great trip today to look at the new bits in Gavel (and the old). Very impressed (as before in this “firms” digging) of the quality of the “dig”. Excellent stacking and the uniformity of the trench was a joy to someone with OCD 😂. Iphone 17 pro max, head torches and a cheepo dive light from Amazon
