Withyhill at Elephants Trunk. My old mate Cap'n Chris's tapes have been cloned out. Its a good comparison with the Shatter image but opens up a big argument ( hopefully ). Normally I leave them in but in an image I think they are a distraction. OK part of the story I suppose but then most caving images today dont show the cave as we see it when underground.

calcite in the early stages of forming I believe (was still soft) & mushrooms that have also had the calcite treatment, these were pretty amazing tbh they were several hundred feet under

Taken in Shatter Cave yesterday. Part of a run of 30. All done on the move. TG6 on programme. Two Skyray torches. A bit of fill in with the Scurion. You just need to think where the shadows will be and not to burn out highlights . Not easy with faces. Time to set up and take photo about one minute. A good model like this one wont need telling where to stand. I hardly use flashguns now.

Why is it that some pictures appear as quite big, while others – such as the one I just posted – look like over-sized thumb-nails until you click on them?

I think that is the difference between 'attaching files' and 'inserting files'. Try the same image using the insert button on the top line of the post, between the links and the smiley symbols.

Personally I dont like attachments. They dont showcase images as well as hosted pictures. Hosting sites are PostImage ( free ) , Flickr and Photobucket. The last two by subscription though they act as storage as well. Now what happens when you no longer pay subscription I really am not sure. PostImage is free but in the early days rewrote the coding losing millions of posted images. Here I use Photobucket . Images posted as medium. My other forum I post large. Oddly they both appear the same size. Photobucket had a poor reputation originally but has vastly improved under new ownership. Steve Clarks image comes via Flickr. If you click the link it takes you back to his Flickr account where you see all of his other photos. Now that may be a good or bad thing. Dont bother with mine there are 8,120 images going back 60 years. ( The question at the Mendip quiz ). Flickr shows image stats and images can be set for various privacy levels.
