Hello, we are planning next years progamme and someone suggested going to Mendip when the folk festival is on and caving during the day and going to the festival saturday evening. Having never been i'm just wondering if this is a good idea or not, ie, is there loads of traffic, are the caves busy cause loads of people do this, are the huts rammed etc.
Thanks for any info

Hi,

I would say definitely come down that weekend.  The roads through Priddy are kept open and moving by stewards throughout the festival.  If you base yourself at any main Mendip hut, even Wessex or BEC, you will have no problem moving around by foot or car.  The folk festival is around ?20-25 per day or ?52 for a weekend including camping.  Last year a large number of cavers went for just the saturday evening and we all ended up sat outside the MRO inflatable tent on the green drinking lovely cider until 2am.  There were street performers on the green as well as music in the tents.  All the green is free to walk around - only the tents with music have to pay.  Recommend buying the folk festival ticket in advance as they sell out well before the event.  Also worth noting is the trade field at the festival which is also free to visit.  Lots of clothing, music and jewellery traders including myself at

Thanks for the info Hannah, i didn't realise it would cost that much and it may be tricky to sell that to some of the guys who are 'careful' with money.  Hope the stall goes well.
Cheers
