Renowned diver involved in Thai cave rescue smashes record for Ireland's deepest dive

The article is inevitably written for a non-caving audience so doesn't give much background to the dive site. Jim Warny says that the dive is levelling out but there's no context - where's the water coming from, are there any nearby caves to potentially link up with? I've caved in Fermanagh and Clare but know nothing of the situation in Co. Mayo.

Some background reading

Sorry if this is harsh and grumpy but .. The Irish examiner article looks like typical scumbag journalism where a good article is ripped off (often people using AI as too lazy to copy/paste other people's work themselves) and mangled it removing key details.

I think the original article the Irish Examiner plagiarised is https://www.pegasuscavingclub.org/deepest-cave-dive-2025

Edit: all grumpiness aimed at poor journalism, not Huge's post of an interesting story, thank you
