Never. We always had faith in you trying to avoid the boulder choke.Glad I kept the faith on the tube! It was originally written off as an mud filled alcove.
By gum, that rock looks soft. Never seen a drill go in so quick!
We often drill 175mm deep holes at 11mm width then top off the final 25mm of the hole with a 12mm bit. That for reasons left unexplained. The 12mm holes using another method are usually 500mm deep so take longer to drill. Other holes are for capping and plug and feathers.By gum, that rock looks soft. Never seen a drill go in so quick!
I think we might not get the alignment we want that way . Its only a very short top off but I get your drift. ( as it were )I was taught it was bad practice to widen holes if using a tungsten carbide drill tip as it could chip it. Not sure if there is any truth in that assertion? If you want the first part of the hole wider drill that first then drill the rest with the smaller diameter bit. That's the opposite of drilling wood steel etc where it is normal to widen holes in stages.
