Pine Martens have been around in mid-Wales long before the recent releases of imported animals. I had four sightings of Pine Martens in the woods above Cwmsymlog while doing soil sampling and other work in 1970/71 (reported to the Vincent Wildlife Trust some years ago).

He does say that they were believed extinct, but were still present before the releases.
