Road closure near Ogof Clogwyn

I understand there's a road closure near Ogof Clogwyn due to a landslip. I'm due to take a Scout group in on Thursday. Has anyone attempted to access the area in the last week or two? How was it?

On Google Maps, the closure looks to be on my usual route up from Clydach village to the parking spot. There is a diversion route higher up the hill. It's going to be a pain directing Scout parents 😃

Just asked around Brynmawr C C for you Rhys. The road closure was flagged on the club's WhatsApp community the other day but only in relation to access to someone's house. Will let you know when I hear something. You could always take the scouts to Llanelly Quarry Pot instead, I hear it's got a nice new entrance. 🙂

Ah, the marked spot isn't where it's happening, & says work starts on Monday 17th, 8am to 5pm

Actually, you could park at LQP, there's plenty of room. It's a longer walk, obviously but you could go through the old railway tunnel for extra underground time.

Heard back from the locals Rhys and the suggestion is to park at Llanelly Quarry.

I would strongly suggest no-one tries to access the usual parking spot for Clogwyn by following the diversion via the top road. It's narrow and there's an acute junction, that a car won't get around in the direction that's needed. Best to leave that for local residents only.

Thanks for the advice Huw. We went to Ogof Clogwyn last night. On an evening trip, we didn't really have time to walk in from Llanelly Quarry, but it would be fun on a day trip. I can confirm that the road in question is definitely fully closed, even at night. There were no diversion signs, but I had researched the alternative route which is quite tortuous, but ok in a normal car. I did lose traction on the acute junction coming back up hill. So allow a bit of extra time and caution if visiting.
