Rocky Acres Cave.

I've been going through my caving logs and see I visited this cave in July 1990. It was a digging trip from Mendip, with Tony Jarret and others. Did it ever go far? I found a brief reference about it being under a housing development.

MROdoc did mention it briefly in a previous thread and there was a survey in descent 139 p.16

It's still there . At one stage it was Devon's deepest dig but I think Wolfsgrove has overtaken it. The diggers got down to probable water level but it didn't open out. Always draughted though and still accessible. Getting spoil out was the big problem as there was nowhere left to back fill. Huge potential in the area lying as it does over a large resurgence but sadly the best bet, Rydon Cave, is covered in dumped overburden from the dual carriageway outside. A concerted effort with a digger might re locate it. John Jones says on a cold day you could see steam rising from the spot where the cave is. That cave also went to water but was never properly explored below water level.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I remember it was in disused quarry which the owner used to store all sorts of stuff - old building materials and the like, presumably to sell them on. My log names him as Joe, he was supportive to the diggers. I hope more work can be done there one day.
