• Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

Ease Gill OpenHouse is an annual open caving meet running this year from 5th-14th June. It’s organised by the RRCPC who will pre-rig seven of the most popular entrances into the Ease Gill cave system.
Come and enjoy some of the best UK caving tackle-free…

Great to see Red Rose hosting this event again but can I just correct you on one part of your advert. "No permits needed" is inaccurate. No permits have been needed for nearly ten years now. I should know as I was the CNCC access officer who negotiated the arrangement with the landowner. There is a mutually consensual on line booking system for the caves of Casterton Fell (as there is for Leck). It is not a permit system. The on line booking system satisfied the landowners desire for a simple management system for the caves and also benefited cavers by reducing congestion etc. on trips.

However, Casterton Fell is also access land and both CNCC and BCA believe caves come under the CRoW legislation. Therefore events such as EaseGill Open House should be made with the support of the caving community (as i'm sure they are), but it is wrong to suggest that no permits are needed or the RRCPC have sole rights of access to the caves. Cavers have the right to access Casterton Fell at anytime unless the landowner has applied for a restriction.

It is a matter of optics as they say, but having put a ton of effort into removing the need for permits on Casterton Fell, I'd appreciate the event using the correct language.

That said, have a good one.

Thanks for spotting that mistake - you're absolutely right, no permits are needed for Easegill trips at any time - the booking system helps us to avoid having too many cavers doing the same trip simultaneously but it's definitely not a permit system.

We now have a fresh, amended flyer, see below, to advertise the event or go to the website

We'd also like to emphasise that we're hoping that cavers will meet new people at Bullpot Farm and arrange trips with them. There's no need to arrive with a trip planned and a team to do it with, please do just turn up.

I'll be there all week so hopefully see you underground or at the Farm, cheers, Becka

A bump to this thread on behalf of our RRCPC friends....

A fantastic chance to enjoy the Ease Gill system without needing to rig, and with beer and good company afterwards

No booking or insurance is required to visit any of the caves, but we'd encourage cavers to support the event by booking via RRCPC if you know what day/trip you want to do (details in link above). If you are going for a more impromptu/unplanned visit, you will be warmly welcomed but please check in with the team at Bull Pot Farm who will be working hard to help minimise congestion during busier periods.

It's a huge (and amazing) cave system with lots of space to go round... but flexibility (and car-sharing to Bull Pot Farm) will help.

Food and accommodation available (booking needed) and there's a bar each day except Wednesday.

Those just having a day trip... don't rush off after your trip, please stay around and chat to other cavers 💬

We're so pleased to see this event happing for a second year. It's a great chance for cavers in our region to get together, maybe do that exchange you've never had the numbers for, or to explore some parts of Ease Gill you've never been, and make some new caver connections too.

Remember, CNCC has route descriptions on our website for all of the rigged entrances (except Pippikin) plus the non-SRT entrances (Wretched Rabbit, Mistral Hole and Boundary Pot) with various through-routes and other destinations. Don't forget about the quite recent changes at the Stop Pot boulder choke, meaning The Sluice route between Stop Pot and Eureka Junction (following in and just above the water) is now very wet and only for extremely thin cavers; Our route descriptions have been updated with the alternatives.

Looking forward to it.

Would anyone with a bit more experience than me care to comment on what this weather might do to Wormway and Dismal junction this weekend?

I can say that there was plenty of water squirting out of hillsides all around Ingleborough today... and the forecast for the weekend doesn't look great.
