Save a student//learn about reforestation

Hi folks, final year student caver here looking for help. As a collective of people who spend a lot of time outdoors, I have a project you might want to be involved with (or if you just fancy saving a student’s degree because I need participants!).

My final year project is an informative website about reforestation and climate change. I’ve built it to cater to all levels of scientific knowledge, so all are welcome! Hopefully it will help you to understand the science of this strategy, limitations and best practices, and maybe support you to identify greenwashing when you encounter it.

All you need to do to be involved is answer some click-box questions and take a look at the website.

To access the website, you must first fill out a short click-box questionnaire to tell me more about your views and background. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes and participation is completely anonymous. You will then be redirected to the website where you can spend as much time as you like.

Link to survey and resource: https://www.qualtrics.manchester.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_1LFv806YuTmvSrI

At the end of the website is a second short survey so I can analyse engagement. My analysis/report on my findings from the two questionnaires is what makes up the majority of my grade so please do the quiz at the end, or your responses can’t be used. It also shouldn’t take you long (5 minutes) but would make a huge difference.

If my past few years of caving have taught me anything about this community, it would be the willingness to help you out when you’re in a tight spot (both literally and figuratively) so thanks in advance to anyone who contributes.

Any questions, please ask 😊

Cheers!
- E

A bit more effort sourcing participants would be encouraging...like tributing to this forum or at least write a bit about yourself abd your caving adventures.
Instead a 30min old user and some very loose connection to caving.

Hi Wolfo, I completely appreciate the connection here must feel very tenuous, especially given I didn't really provide any information about myself! I didn't want to bore but happy to share :)

I've been a caver since 2023, mainly in the Peaks and Dales as I'm based in Manchester. I'm a member of a couple of different clubs up north at the moment but do occasionally venture to South Wales as I prefer it down there as I like to be in small spaces over big pitches. Open to any recommendations for really crawly or squeezy caves! I haven't been about nearly as much in the past few months due to my academic obilgations with the exception of some time down oxlow, a hilarious struggle to find nettle pot and later JH in the snow and a lancs-county gander. Hopefully I'll be back underground more soon though!

Mainly on UKC for safety notices, keep on the aggy-daren connection updates as I was down there last summer, to keep up with any cave science developments and to see where Tony is so you're completely right- I haven't made any contributions on here before. Definitely not a 30 min user though ;)

I don't want to take advantage, I've just had some incredible support from the caving community with personal struggles over the past year so I guess I was just running on the assumptions that people might be interested or just want to help. No pressure if not!

All the best 😊

I've just completed it. It's quick (10 minutes max) and painless. The 'resource' is a little simplistic but is good as far as it goes.

Done. Some answers could be misleading without context - for example, I stated no interest in supporting forestation in my local area because it happens to be well forested already and is fairly well managed.

Hi Chris, that's really good to know- it's been incredibly challenging trying to word behavioural questions specifically because I know so much contributes to what actions people decide to take but also have a hard limit on how much I'm allowed to ask. That was something I hadn't considered! Thank you for letting me know, and for getting involved in the first place.
