Serious damage in Giants Hole

maybe it was a bunch of squaddies not a bunch of drug addict asbo youths with learning difficulties then?  :wall:

who knows, and unless anyone has any evidence other that speculation, lets leave the 'not normal' groups out of it ay? I'm with oli on this one.

If any of these groups wanted to spend cash on kit it would be greatfully received at any caving retail outlet. They may even be hiring it locally

anyone can take friends, not just youths. Not all adults are as conscious about conservation.

long and short of it is, if we knew who done it, they would be dealt with I'm sure.

Not according to previous experience. Or were you not meaning by the police?

open to interpretation - there would probably be some who would like to give him/her a good telling off with non verbal communication and with out police involvement.  :spank:

Seriously doubt it. Even a brain dead vigilante would think twice before knocking on the door of a gang of known criminals.

There's only one brain-dead vigilante I am aware of, and he never thinks at all. He might be good at knocking on doors though. Shall we ask?

What would be really helpful if someone has photos of the chamber taken before it was trashed.  This would enable us to see exactly what was missing, i.e. had been removed from the site altogether, and what was left lying around on the floor.  This would help DCA with reconstruction if it does turn out to be possible.

As you can see from the photos, the damage is fresh, i.e. it's not old earthquake damage, although we know it does happen that relatively minor earth movements can cause damage in caves.  We now know the damage pre-dates 15th. March but still don't have a record of when the place was last seen intact - can anyone help?

If you can help with information, photos of the area intact, etc. send them to Dave Webb or Daryl Godfrey as per my first posting please.

BTW, there was an incident some 30+ years ago in Derbyshire when a spate of thieving of gear from caves took place and word got round as to who might have been responsible.  A visit to a likely flat was paid by a group from a local caving club, who found the stolen goodies in the posession of the thieves.  The police were not involved but it is known that the thieves received "a salutory lesson" on the spot and the thieving stopped.  A lesson worth learning?

Really sorry to hear this.......****ing arseholes..........

But at the end of the day i've lived all my life in the Peak district..... the police aren't interested in anything......

As for the Park authority, all the rangers do is direct tourists to ice cream vans, and being as their too lazy to pick up the dozens of little black bags these tourist leave behind full of dog turds, i cant imagine how any interest must go into conservation......

Its not really got owt to do with the PDNPA - this is an issue for Natural England (completey speerate thing) as the cave is in a SSSI.
