Yes we should, it definitely sounds like an invite to a landfill site - how important do we judge this entrance to Masson?

Is it the only entrance to Masson? are other caves affected?

the only one to discuss on - line ::)
In seriousness, there are two valuable entranced into the masson complex within the actual quarry,
beyond the landfill angle I, personally thought "timber MINERAL and sporting rights was quite pertinent to those with a knowledge of the area.
especially with the tearsall situation recently.

Clay - lined cells (or wotevva the shysters bamboozle grabbing planners/ councillers with these days.) seem to allow huge liberties and reet risky practices to be passed. ( I worked in opencast mining for 13 years!).
Auction on 6thJune boards up thurs'. bit of a rush? not allowing a huge number of possible buyers to evaluate a plan/ use.
Or just parranoid. don't give a****
But I shall keep a close eye on situation.
thanks All.

Steady on OG, 5.42pm on a Saturday, even I was sober then ;) ;), not now though  ;) ;), as has been said before in the other house, and here, permission for landfill will be contestible on grounds of draining the quarry and accessiblility.
I'm sure that we have enough expertise between us to put up a damn good case to bugger up any planning proposal.

Who knows what will happen? Some hideous developer turning up in his white range rover sport and converting the quarry into an underground "statement property"?

Or, given the current climbing usage etc, is something that the BMC might be interested in - much like Furness quarry in Stoney?

(It would, of course, be nice to think BCA / DCA had the means to protect by purchase, but somehow I doubt they have the cash!!)

It's going to auction but the muted price is 130,000 - I'm sure you've got that in spare change Graham and just fancy a Derbyshire Quarry!

Thanks for the tipoff O.G.

I have contacted DCA officers and BMC already to see if we can find out more.  English Nature have also been contacted as I think it's a RIGS and may be a potential SSSI.

If there is any attempt at planning permission for landfill we'll get an early warning anyway.  The suggested price is way out of our league, even with help from UKCCEF, so there is no chance of being able to buy the whole site.  However, once we know who may be interested in buying the site it may be possible to approach potential owners to seek access agreements or even purchase parts of the site to safeguard access.

Any further news or info, please post on UKcaving so that everyone can see what's happening as I'm going to be out of touch for a couple of weeks now.
