Hello all,

On the 20th and 21st November we'll be having a working weekend up at Silence Mine, between Great Hucklow and Foolow in the perpertually sunny county of Derbyshire (if I knew how to link to a map I would put a link here, you'll just have to use your imaginations).  The site consists of around 4 acres of grassland, scub and woodland, and the old mine surface workings, and is managed by a groups of locals, along with help and advice from PDHMS and other local experts.

Over the weekend we'll be clearing hawthorn, shifting stones about, sorting out drainage issues and clearing vegetation from the remains of the mine, and any help would be greatly appreciated - especially as most of the people who help with the management are of somewhat advanced years!  If this sounds like your cup of tea (tea will be provided by the way, as will cake) then watch this space for more details...

Thanks
Clare

A few more details....

We'll be meeting at the site from 9.30 on Saturday for bracken and bramble bashing, bulrush pulling (or reedmace if you're picky about these things) and cleaning out the bird boxes - doesn't that sound fun!  Equipment will be provided, but bring your own gloves etc.  I'll bring some stoves along for making tea, heating soup and so on.

Everyone's welcome and you don't have to come for the whole day, so hopefully see some of you there!

Thanks
Clare

I'll come along, as long as i can be the event's official photographer, hence relinquishing any physical requirements...  ;D

Bugger. Im caving all day sat and then sun morning. Will drop in sunday lunchtime to see if you are still about.  Remember to leave a few short dead stems from the Typha (reedmace) stems for some of the dragonfly species to oviposit into.

Ah that's a shame Jim, I know how you love your reedmace pulling!  I won't be around on Sunday - I'm not sure who will be but I'll try and find out and let you know.

Aren't you at cas care on Sunday morning?

Hi Jim

You are not on the ciculation list of the e-mail Brendon sent re dates. I suggest you check to make sure you haven't been missed off the course.

Yeah, Clare told me I get all the mails from Al B though. Very odd.  Too late now - Ive made a promise to someone else.
