Slack Hole - New EPC Dig

Following a brutal winter in Little Waterfall we (Eldon / Team Awesome / Glory Grabbing Wankers / whatever you want to call us) fancied a bit of a pleasant dig for a change. After testing the fit of a few sites we've settled on having a pop at Slack Hole for a while.

For those that don't know, this gem is found at the top of Cave Dale, in the next field along from Titan. It was most recent dug by Moose and co. back in 2011 and it really is in an exciting area. And it draughts strongly at times! Flatmate, at the end of Far Sump Extensions, is the closest known cave and is 180m lower!

It is so far providing us with a very clean, dry and social project. It needs 4-6 to dig so fits with our reliable numbers fine at the moment. We will put updates and photos on here as and when things progress, but you will find a more detailed log on our website:

It is on Rowter Farm land and we're grateful for the access granted to us diggers (only, for now) whilst we try see if there's anything there. Well, there HAS to be something below, it's pretty massive!

Originally investigated by TSG (P.B.Smith, Ray Fairholm et al) in the early to mid 1970's, check out the Chapel log book for that period. If I recall correctly it fizzled out through lack of manpower.

I'd welcome to see any info if anyone is at the Chapel, however my understanding from JSB's diary entry from 1976 is that TSG's efforts were limited to a natural shaft 30m to the east of the main shakehole.

I can remember a couple of PDMHS visits there around 1975. PB wanted some blasting doing. He also had some concrete sewer pipes from us that were not used for Magpie Sough that he intended to line the top with.
We took our compressor up there and did some drilling and blasting. One sunday in early December 75, my newly acquired girlfriend (from the night before) came too. She has never forgotten PB telling her to just duck down behind this stone wall and don’t stand up ‘till you’re told!
