Swildons Hole Book

I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait.

But.... am I wrong in thinking that there were actually quite a few different reasons for a delay to publishing and also that the book was actually already delayed anyway before AM's personal tragedies occurred?

Certainly I'm sure many people will have great sympathy for anyone (friend or stranger) who has suffered the sad loss of one (or both) parent(s) and rightly this is bound to take priority over other less important matters such as the topic of this thread.

However, I reckon people out there in "reader land" who don't know anything about the background story to this topic are not being unreasonable when enquiring whether or not there is a "due out date" scheduled for this eagerly awaited addition to UK caving literature - and a damn fine book it will no doubt be..... watch this space?.....

Christine,

I think you should consider:

  • The difference between a friendly ribbing and a malicious comment.
  • Like it or not the book is manifestly overdue.
  • You can not criticise someone then deny their right of reply.
  • The contribution you are making to inter-club friendship and world peace.

Well said that Wessex member. :D

I am pleased that the unnecessary attack on me and my choice of career ( ie Ambulance service ) by Chris Castle has been removed from the forum. You may not have seen it, but it certainly did not contribute to 'world peace' etc. My friends and family have been involved in the Swildons Book and it is correct that Ali is not the only person to suffer unfortunate circumstances. I have spoken to her this evening and she agrees that the book being overdue is of concern to the Swildons book committee. I don't see any point in moaning about it on a public forum, hence my previous comment.
As for not being allowed to criticise someone, perhaps the posts criticising the contributers to the book should be removed as well.

No-one wrote about "not being allowed to criticise someone". This is a simple misquote since Cookie originally wrote "I think you should consider: .... you can not criticise someone then deny their right of reply".

This is not the same as removing all criticism from wherever it hails.

No, I didn't see it.

Christine, I did not want to take any part in this unpleasant thread and I have submitted nothing to it. You have confused me with someone else, so I ask you to post a correction.

My most sincere apologies Chris ( Castle, that is ). There is another Chris out there who seems to want to remain anon. I doubt if I will receive the same apology.
I have printed off a copy of the mail for you cookie.

Please calm down everyone - it looks like there have been some crossed wires anyway.

Christine, if somebody has sent you an offensive private email then checking the email headers may give you some idea of where it originated. If it was via this site, then the username should be somewhere in the mail. I'm only saying this so that the wrong person doesn't get rapped for something they never sent.

Yes, this is a case of crossed wires. I have the email address of the sender, which only told me it was a Chris C and he said in the mail he was a mendip caver and would be posting his unpleasant email on the forum. I know nobody with these initials save (wrongly) accused Chris Castle. He ( the sender ) did not appreciate my attempts to explain some possible causes of the Swildons book taking a long time. Unfortunately he kept forgetting to sign his name. I'm off caving tomorrow so suggest peeps prise themselves away from the keyboards and do the same at their earliest convenience. Life is too short. If anyone has any ideas who it might have been, I would appreciate being told.
Cheers
Mind how you go. Chris :D

That's OK, Christine, I'm glad it's sorted out. I'm just sorry that the character who shares my forename and initial is such a nasty piece of work.

As something of a Pragmatist I look at the "problem" like this, There have been all sorts of setbacks and delays. Sooner or later it WILL be published. So why all the fuss?. Put Yer name on the list and forget about it, then one day You'll all get a pleasant surprise  ................Just consider the delay there was in forming the subject matter
