Swildon's Sump 2 Scum

During a cheeky mid-week trip down Swildon's yesterday we noticed a considerable amount of stationary foamy-bubbles on the surface of the entrance to sump 2 with some brown scummy bits floating about on top (but no smell). My friend said he also saw something swim past his legs in the water which I'm not entirely convinced happened haha.

I'd never been there until yesterday but he said it wasn't like that last time he was there and we decided not to go further. Is this normal/safe? Maybe it accumulates since Swildon's has been bone dry recently and it can't wash through? Tempted to try again this weekend.

Probably nothing, but thought it was worth asking. TIA :)

Vegetation macerates in flooding caves to form impressive amounts of foamy build up. Quite normal. Someone will probably know a lot more about it. I vaguely recall words like saponification and blahblah.

I find muttering "humic acid" and nodding pensively when discussing foamy scunge can fool people (who don't know me) that I know what I'm talking about 🤣

The scummy foamness is viewable in this sho' fil' of SH in relatively high water conditions..

Ah thanks for that, definitely wasn't as foamy as in the vid. If there's time I'll give it a go tomorrow/Sunday, will come back and let you guys know if I get a brain-eating amoeba or something lmao.
