  • Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

Mike Kushy and Lee Venning, we met for 1030. MK went down the hole with LV winching. 45 loads cleared, 3 of which being in rock nets. Good draught at the bottom coming from the obvious hole. Holes drilled and noise made. Back at the cars for 1400. Depth measured at 13m. Mike.

All photo's by MK.

Thanks Mike. Yes most interesting. Both Templetons are in Triassic rocks filling a valley in the underlying limestone. Like Rickford Rising and Wookey Hole the initial development is in the Triassic conglomerate. This covers much of the Mendip escarpment. All the caves on Mendip likely predate the Triassic which started 250 million years ago when the land mass was a super continent and the climate hot and dry with no polar ice. I presume Templeton itself crosses the boundary into limestone but I dont know at what depth. As you have said both are on route between Swildons and Wookey Hole but you may have to get a bit deeper to find anything big.

Sam Hill and Mike Kushy. MK arrived at 1645, the dumper got emptied, ran the extractor down Templetwin for 15 minutes, tied the white pipe onto the ladder and lowered the telescopic ladder down. MK went down and found a good footing for the ladder (which is a perfect height) and filled 1 bucket up. MK came to surface and winched the bucket up. SH arrived at 1730 and went staright down the hole, with MK winching 36 loads cleared. The breaker was brought out and SH had first go for 20 minutes or so. MK then down the hole with SH winching, 55 buckets in total. Lots of mud to clear and more breaker work to be done. Finshed at 1945. Mike.
