The Deepest Cave - Cheve - National Geographic

Am I being stupid or am I missing something? I am 100% sure there is a documentary on National Geographic about a Cheve expedition led by Bill Stone. I have seen it advertised on FaceyB, YouTube but can I find it...can I 'eckers like.

I have National Geopgraphic via a Disney+ subscription but I cannot find it.

Anyone watched it in the UK?

IIRC Cheve is a contender for DCiTW but it's currently Veryovkina, followed by its twin Voronya/Krubera. Apols if spelling/fact(s) are inaccurate, just firing from the hip.

Cheve has the deepest known dye trace at around 2600m, so that could be where the name comes from.

Watched it a couple of weeks ago on catch up National Geographic Explorer. Just checked and it is still on catch up. Bit surprised to see Jumars in action after all these years.

This film was on again last Friday 5th. I stumbled across it while browsing. It was about 1/3 of the way in.
I read Bill Stones book on the cave a few years ago and was impressed by the difficult dives they had to make through 3 sumps I think.
However in the 2/3 of the film I watched there was no mention of diving sumps. I have searched for the film on catch up so I can view the first bit but it seems to be unavailable. My question is: have the sumps been bypassed by dry cave? Anyone know? My web searches have not turned up an answer.

@Groundhog the sumps are in Huautla not in Cheve if my memory is still not messing around with me But I could be mistaken

Ah. That would explain my mistake. Now you mention it I am starting to recall it. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm fairly sure there are sumps in Cheve too. Ric and Jason went on at least one of the trips, and another UK diver but I can't remember his name. They may now be pushing alternative routes as you suggest.

Also sumps in Huautla of course, pushed by Jason and Chris in 2014 (?) to a western hemisphere depth record.

Yes, we ( Jason and Rick - divers + massive support team ) set a Western Hemisphere depth record in Cheve in 2004. Richard Hudson was the other UK diver.
This would be the deepest point of the final sump which was in S2.
I'm not sure if they have since found a way over the top of this final sump and attained a greater depth or not.

Then in 2013, we took that record back to Sistema Huautla, when a dive depth of circa. 80m was reached in S9, with a huge ongoing tunnel.

Sump 2 has been bypassed to slightly greater depth, but the river was not met again. Lots of information through the 2021 expedition at usdct.org. 2022 was focused on looking for alternate entrances to shorten the >11 km trip to the current end.
