The use of AI art

Ok, if you can find me something not AI generated I'd be more than happy to swap it out.

I will also avoid using ai in future :)

Just found the perfect image

I'm no fan of GenAI, but this swap isn't putting money back in the pockets of artists any more than the AI image was.

The extraordinary energy use, and therefore climate impact, of AI still makes me think we shouldn't be using it unnecessarily, so I agree with the general premise.

I don't fully understand the business model of the AI image producers, but I'm sure that using fewer of their images must damage their viability somehow, which will push people back to using real artists.

I agree we should use AI unnecessarily.

AI art is effectively automated plagiarism. The AI is trained using art produced by humans, without payment of royalties.
Adobe has recently had (unless it's changed) some rather worrying terms of reference changes in its licencing agreements when it comes to using a persons photos for their AI. Think it went something along the lines of if you use their cloud for storage / processing then they have free reign to use your stuff for 'AI training' or similar.
I don't use any Adobe products, however there have been a few things on YouTube.

In some circumstances I agree. But if I was looking for an image for a website, I wouldn't be paying an artist, I'd pinch something from somewhere.

Chris.

All this so called AI art has human origins. The algorithms are clever but they are really just shuffling the deck. What they do offer is incredible speed when performing one particular task. I think these images are advance on the stock photos you find line but can be finely tailored to be very specific. I think that would be the reason why one would use AI images, speed and convenience. I would be interested to know if anybody has tinkered with cartoons by specific artists or used the cartoon motif to accompany a caption they have dreamed up. Actually must try that sometime!
