Things to do and where to stay in the Dales

I'm thinking of taking my son (9) up to the Dales for a few days over half term to introduce him to 'wild caving' Am planning Great Douk, Long Churn - stuff of that ilk. However I'm also looking for non-caving stuff to keep him occupied - one idea is the via ferrata at How Stean. Can anyone recommed it, and can it be done as a party of two who turn up, or does it need booking in advance as a group ?

Also, are there any recomended static caravan parks in the Ingleton to Settle type area? I used to do Mrs Moffat's under the viaduct back in the day, but something slightly more upmarket might be preferable.

Cheers,

Robin

The bunkhouse in clapham has a family room @ ?13 each per night - a bit warmer than the caravans.

How Stean via ferrata is fun - not high up, but a bit of everything. It's very expensive though as you have to be led round and have to book in advance.

I'll second the recommendation for Clapham Bunk House. Very friendly bunch, lovely accommodation and super grub!

There's also: Mountain Biking in Gisburn Forest, Waterfalls walk at Ingleton, Settle-Carlisle Railway, Malham Cove, Ingleborough Show Cave at Clapham, Climbing Wall at Ingleton, Swimming Pool in Settle...

Have fun!

Thanks all for that.
It's very expensive though as you have to be led round and have to book in advance.

I see what you mean - ?50 a person, ouch!! Having said that, you can easily spend that much on a moderate shop at Morrisons....
