Wanted - a decrepit caving partner in The Dales

I'm pretty slow and extremely averse to heights, so caving with clubs doesn't work for me. All the people I would normally cave with are either retired from caving, in poor health, or dead. So I'm looking for someone who would like to join me on occasional bimbles to horizontal caves, nothing exciting, just for the joy of being underground.

Glad you found someone for a trip Kay! I'm surprised no other takers (frankly, I'm hopefully some years off being decrepit, but the concept of a nice gentle bimble trip sounds pretty awesome, if only time allowed). Maybe after your inaugural trip, some more folks will come forwards.

Having read Matt's post I was going to suggest that his book 'For the Faint Hearted - 50 easy caves for a gentle afternoon' should also include the best tea shop to visit after every cave listed, and cake recommendations to suit each trip.

And then I read semiiretiredcaver's reply and am pleased there would definitely be a market for such a book ;-)

Maybe if Matt does the Dales one, I can work on a Derbyshire edition ;-)

Oh yes, I've done the carting a baby everywhere, thankfully many years ago now.

I've never crept around a tree upside down but I'd give it a go if there was a good teashop up there, just out of reach ️

Looking at semiretired's usename, I've been reminded that the Portuguese for retired is "reformado". The idea of being "reformed" seems much better!

Unbelievably, both the people who've offered to cave with me are people I already know! I suppose someone who doesn't know me might feel a bit wary of caving with a self-confessed incompetent
