Warning - Hanging Flat Mine

I had a trip into Hanging Flat Mine on Friday to find that there has been a recent collapse of the timber supports in the main "chamber" near the end of the right hand branch. As you approach the chamber, there was a short section of supporting timbers and passage immediately on the right. This has now collapsed and run in. It looked very fresh with no sign of anyone walking over the area. I suspect the aging softening timbers and relentless rain have caught up with it.

The rest of the timber frame heading over the shaft down doesn't appear to have changed from what I recall (being partially collapsed already) but, as before, the area should be treated with extreme caution.

I've placed some cairns in the passage just before the chamber, and scratched an "X" on to indicate the danger.

Not surprised to read this. That whole area at the end of the right hand passage has been a collapse waiting to happen for years. Best avoided.

Agree. Every time I go down the right hand fork, I look at it and assess it as "nope".

Given how "safe" the left hand fork is, I go fairly often to HF:
