We have received a warning that the in-situ ropes from the Roof Tunnel to Kingsdale Master Cave in Valley Entrance are in a particularly dangerous condition, being worn to the core in places.
CNCC discourages use of in-situ ropes and we do not install or monitor them. However, we are fully aware that this is one of a handful of sites in our region where unmaintained in-situ ropes are commonly used and have become taken for granted.
Given the condition of these ropes, and the fact that they may be removed at any time...
We STRONGLY encourage groups performing a Simpson, Swinsto or Rowten pull-through, who are needing a rope to reach the Valley Entrance Roof Tunnel, to take around 30 minutes before heading up the hill to go into Valley Entrance and rig the Roof Tunnel pitch with your own rope. Do NOT rely on the in-situ rope being safe, or even present.
