Water Flowmeter

I'm considering undertaking some routine flow data collection for inputs and outputs related to the Stoney Midleton Catchment. I used to collect flow data for a hydro consultancy. This data may form part of my final project for my Integrated Master's in Environmental Science. It would also benefit the Stoney Middleton Flood Group and any ongoing research in the area (I was a Stoney resident until last year). I'm posting because I need to beg/borrow a flow meter or secure funding for one. Also, my data may be helpful / align with the needs of other researchers in the area. Please get in touch if you can help/advise. I will also check if the OU has a meter.

Thanks

Aaron

The flow rate isn't going to be consistent across the whole width of your roughly rectangular 'trench'. The roughness of the bottom and sides is also to be reckoned with. Why not data log the depth instead, which is very simple from an engineering viewpoint, and put the results into something like this:

I did that years ago inside the DYO resurgence where nature had provided an approximate rectangular smooth sided trench so no need of building V-notches and all that. I obtained results consistent with the occasional EA Wales manual flow rate measurements done some way downstream of the cave resurgence and before cave water and main river confluence. This is before the days of telemetry.
