Water levels Nidderdale

Had a look at Scar House this morning - took some pics that turned out remarkably like Andyj23uk's, but I think even wetter by a short head....

... and I had some trouble locating Goyden till I realised the entrance was entirely submerged (see Wezzit)

I guess digging is looking unlikely for a wee while  :(

Does anybody know what levels are like at Scar House at the moment? I'm tempted to visit Goyden etc on Saturday when there are 20mph westerly winds forecast. I wouldn't want to drive to check the dam only to have to go home again!

There were waves crashing over the dam yesterday.

Molerat/Susie, look up Black Sheep Diggers......... (y)

Eh?
they dig regularly in the Goyden system so know it really well! Found some new stuff last weekend with them. Could have used an extra pair of hands!  (y)

Susie if you are on facebook look us up Black Sheep Diggers likely to get a quicker answer - sorry did spot your message earlier

Yes, Goydenman, but it wasn't me that was asking the question.  I was answering it.

I didn't need to look at Facebook to find out what I had seen at the reservoir the day before.

I wish I hadn't bothered responding now...

I shouldn't worry, susie ? I imagine that people are not deliberately trying to wind you up, but are just skimming through posts and not reading them properly before replying.

Untrue Fulk, I was trying to be helpful.  Looking back I suppose my reply was aimed more towards Molerats question but as Susie had been up to the reservoir and took notice of water levels at the dam and as she's looking at and replying to specific questions on a caving forum about water levels in Nidderdale I assumed (wrongly) that she was doing her homework and was planning a trip into a nearby cave.

Now, As the Black Sheep Diggers have several ongoing digs in the Goyden System they need to and DO understand how rain and wind affects the caves.  Very experienced guys so I was merely pointing little miss knickers in a twist in their direction

I'm happy to accept that you were trying to be helpful, but I do think that it is better to answer the question that the OP asked, rather than questions that you think that other people would like to ask which confuses the thread.

I had been up to the Reservoir the day before but I was taking a walk with my dogs, not planning a trip.

I have been going down the Nidderdale caves for several decades now, so I am reasonably aware of their peculiar flood hazards - to the extent that with the current water levels and variable weather I would check the reservoir just before going down rather than the day before.

I am also aware of the work that the Black Sheep Diggers have been putting into the system for many years, and I applaud them for it, and for their many successes. I am also very happy for you that you were able to help them in their pursuit of a lower route between Goyden 1 and Goyden 2 last weekend.

In my opinion, it was clear from the wording of Molerat's question that he was also aware of the nature of the possible flooding in the system.

I regret very much for having upset you so much that you felt it necessary to call me names, and I apologise for having done so.

Sorry not to have made it to tonight's dig - but if anyone did, what are water levels like ?

I'm hoping to visit New Goyden on Sunday, but the forecast isn't brilliant...
