We have a winner! The caves themselves aren't much but what intrigued me more when I was there a few years ago was the River Belah sinking into its bed just beyond the little gorge (Woofergill Scar). I didn't go much further but couldn't see any rising further downstream.

Much of the river disappears down this choked crevice in typical limestone fashion. Water levels were low and this would probably be completely hidden in normal conditions.

Just below Woofergill Scar the infant Belah sinks into the limestone. As far ahead as I could see there was no resurgence to be seen - worth a look by some keen cavers, surely?

I've not been in the cave but have walked that way up into the gorge quite a few times. A few years ago I encountered what I thought may have been a pair of young black panthers. They fled before I could get my camera on. My fleeting impression was that they were kittens but large for their age. They may well have just been large feral kittens but it was odd to see them out there well away from habitations. I suppose they'd catch rabbits, plenty of them up there.
