I've just noticed there is what looks like a thin line tied off to a rock in the water on the left side (or could it be a remnant of old telephone wire?). Is it somewhere in Mossdale Caverns (that's pretty gloomy)?

Good spot, it is a dive line.

I thought I better add a clue.

This spool of rope sits across from the sump entrance in the previous image. I assume it's to help the divers get out as the walls are black and slimey
Edit: The oily walls haven't really come across in the pictures
 
I've actually been there (possibly several times) but so long ago that I can't remember much about it. The big fault chamber on the way there was much more memorable (as were the other parts of this fascinating cave). This isn't a cave but you need caving techniques to pass through.
