Damn! Apart from it being familiar from caving trips generally, I knew I was also familiar with a photo of it but couldn't quite remember where. It is, of course, the picture opposite page 39 in the 1990 reprint of G & M "Underground Adventure". (I really should have got that!)

In which case I'm going to say Alex is wrong and that photo was taken in Notts "Hole".
