What caving related thing did you do today?

Visited a cave and resurgence today, I with Ralf and Nala even reached the end of the cave :-)

I am doing the final edits on the Dachstein 2024 report (better late than never?)
Got fed up with hammer & drill cords getting tangled, let’s see if this solves it. The swivel type is overkill but have 5 just taking up space, cord is in an openable spliced eye so does away with 2 carabiners.
I reckon something involving bungee (or something like the old-fashioned coiled telephone wires) or those retracting spool things must be the way forward. I used to keep my trad climbing nut key on one of those keyring spool things and it worked really well (as long as you didn't let go in such a way that it hit you in the face or other important areas). Probably not so great in mud though...

Bungee is banned from my attachments after I slipped screwing down a nut, the spanner hung on until the shock cord was tight, then pinged off and hit me with some force. Good way to lose a tooth or an eye I reckon.

Made a couple of tubes for my SDS drill bits and plugs&feathers.

50mm Solvent Weld Pipe (I already had a pot of the solvent)
4 screw on endcaps
and 4 Straight Couplings.

Why don't endcaps mate directly onto the pipe? Is this just a get rich quick scheme by FloPlast?

Did you put some neoprene or other sponge like material inside the caps to cushion the battering ram effect of steels sliding along the tubes?

You can get similar retracting spooling cords for holding stuff for diving as well, but I reckon anything like that will get clogged by cave mud\muck and stop working pretty quickly

Oh the joys of cleaning caving kit in the winter, all the usual stuff plus you get to do it in the darkness and freezing cold.
