Which (Mendip) cave have you visited this week?

We just went down to the twenty, had a look around the dry ways, explored the odd side passages and had a good look round. It was rewarding to enjoy some passageway that previously I had just shot through on the way to somewhere else.

Got very muddy in Sludge Pit on Wednesday and then a beginner trip in Gostchurch on Friday. Wasn't too excited about a Gostchurch trip but it was actually really enjoyable. Redid the squeeze from the boulder chamber into the top of the water chamber, sat in it for a while whilst others tried it to help guide them through, but everyone that tried decided it was a bit too much with one determined caver getting temporarily stuck. A nice chat and relax in the boulder chamber whilst more keen folk tried a variety of squeezes with the phenomenon of the amplified heartbeat of a temporarily wedged caver observed. Two of us went into the dead end in the floor where there's a nice bit of flowstone through a squeeze. We all went through the drain pipe and two went up into the dexion series. The rest of us went to the coal shute to practice a bit of rope work, going back up via the slippery chimney from the boulder chamber (pretty tiring when you take more than one attempt to get established!) Once the the group had met back up it was a chilly walk back to the cars. We thought we were too late for the Hunters so headed to the Plume of Feathers which turned out to be closed, so it was a hasty drive to the Hunters where we made it in time for last orders. Anyone know if the Plume is still running?

I believe so, but not been in for years after the staff treated us extremely grumpily.

We'd just been to wash digging kit in the ford out the back of my Land Rover and thought we had a new favourite post-digging routine, but the staff obviously thought we'd driven through the ford, which is closed to traffic and were not prepared to believe us. Never been back.

The Crown at Churchill is the favourite pub on that side of the hill.

Crown is a really nice pub, great cider selection. Gets very busy on a Friday night though and I need a seat post caving 😂

East Twin Swallet last night, rain had eased by the time we got into the cave. First time I've seen it with so much water running through. As usual enjoyed seeing the fossils and the squeezy bits. Slightly unsettling was the flood debris on the roof in some of the passage in Spar Pot, I've only ever been to the cave in dry weather, but there's no mention of that section of the cave flooding in Mendip Underground, is it usual for it to flood in those sections?

It's unlikely to fill up that rapidly, unless A) you'd ignored the forecast, or B) spent hours digging down there

A quick nose into Dolebury Levy on the way up to the top for sunset. Surprised to see in tact cave pearls in the middle of the passage. If you're not a spider fan the entrance squeeze won't be enjoyable!

Looking forward to the photos, I've never visited, perhaps in the future when the rush of initial visits has reduced.
I doubt there will be a rush as the system is still in its infancy and more wardens need to be approved. I am no longer a warden under the new scheme and have to be taken in by somebody who is. This despite over 150 trips there. As for photos I am not sure as I have over 2,000 of Reservoir Hole. I sent MCRA 1,500 but too many to put on the website ! I have 100 on a huge printed collage.
