White tubes/sacs in stream, Scoska Cave

We were in Scoska Cave today and in the stream in the left hand branch of the cave we saw some white translucent tubes in the stream bed. They were about 50-60mm long and 6mm wide, white, slightly translucent, seemed to be empty. They were anchored to a pebble at one end and were free hanging in the stream otherwise. We saw one on its own, and nearby a group of three anchored to the same pebble. The stream had some flow, but not loads, and was about 50mm deep.

Any idea what they might be? We regret we didn't have a camera so couldn't take a photo.

They may be related to long term scientific work which the late (and very much missed) Dave Hodgson was doing in Scoska. If anyone happens to be going there a photo would be useful.

I presume you're referring to the Historic Way passage?

Related to his studies of bats and moths there, or were the studies wider? We did see a number of moths on the walls, as well as (separate) groups of flies. No signs of bats as far as we were (inexpertly) aware though.

Yes, Historic Way.
