Who was "Yorkie"?

In BSA publications immediately following the war there is a number of excellent articles about Dales caves by someone signing themselves as "Yorkie". Clive Westlake and I were musing earlier today as to who this might have been. Can anyone enlighten us?

(We don't think it was Cymmie as he has aricles of his own, interspersed with those of "Yorkie".)

As a matter of interest, those post war BSA publications are quite magnificent. If you happen to find yourself in a caving library, grab the opportunity to dip into them. There's loads of interesting stuff in there.

Hi Pitlamp,
The current belief is that Yorkie certainly was Cymmie. Possibly he used this name to allow him to put out a larger number of articles. Certainly, the information exhibited suggests that it had to be someone with an excellent range of knowledge about caves and he fits that bill without a doubt.
Cheers, Harry

Excellent - thanks. I'll see Clive later today and tell him. It does make sense actually. In BSA Cave Science 2 (1949) there's an article by "Yorkie" which goes into considerable historical detail about Eli Simpson's discovery of the main part of Meregill Hole during the YSA days (very early 20th Century, over 40 years previously). It's written in a way which suggests that our "Yorkie" was there at the time!

Offhand, I can't remember. It was a few months ago. Have a browse, next time you're in a decent club caving library.
Cymmie certainly wrote about GG under his own name, variously - so if he and "Yorkie" were the same then the best answer is "probably".
