Even places thought of as beginer locations like Long Churns, Carlswark, or Porth Yr Ogof would not be as easy as say, Snowdon or Ben Nevis... with mobile communications and helicopters, places like Knoydart are arguably less remote than P8!

Arguably some of the places I've been in P8 are much more remote than the end of Daren Cilau...
Indeed, as a non diver and with my blinkers on I was thinking of just to the start of the downstream sump ("Sump4" as I know it) - of course your recent exploits and that of other divers knock my comments for six  ;)

I am pleased to see the careful thought and ideas being shown. To add to the mix the rescue from Sunset Hole although doomed from the outset by the injury show that a sporting cave can easily be underestimated as a rescue problem. Neil Moss was another where just the last few feet turned out to be impossible on an otherwise reasonably straight forward route  :( perhaps with modern techniques and knowledge the later could/should be solvable, but the former? I dont think that would be altered?

I am long distanced from caving now, but in my time, did my bit. As a school kid, people would nudge-nudge me in the early to middle 60's because my my Dad was Doc Kidd - of Donna Carr fame, of Henry Meres fame and so many others. A childhood, followed by a young adulthood in Derbyshire Cave rescue was a real beginning to life. Doc Kidd has been dead for perhaps 16 years now - but he was a bit of a character!
Hi,
Just saw the post in a search and wanted to acknowledge the teams heroic efforts in the Donna Carr rescue that was in 1965 and particularly Dr Kidd who likely made it possible for the outcome of recovery. Donna lived a long life to be PHD in pure mathematics and tenured Professor at an American university! I am her younger brother who received the emergency call from Derbyshire constabulary and the rest you know. God Bless, and cheers
A voice from the past!

Walking wounded take about 4/5 hours to rescue from the downstream end of Barnes Loop in Swildons hole - ask me how I know, it’s a lottery as to where the ambulance takes you, I wanted RUH in Bath but got shunted to Weston General!!

Time to summon help needs to be added in. Time to exit cave, time to get back to mobile reception.

Time to get through to CRO. I recently had to call 999 from Gaping Gill to request emergency evacuation for suspected appendicitis. I asked first for "Police", then "Cave Rescue Organisation, Clapham, North Yorkshire". I was in N. Yorks, but the mobile network put me through to Lancashire Police. They took my details, asked me for "what three words", then decided I was at Ingleborough Show Cave! I was told that CRO would phone me back. 45 mins later I still hadn't heard anything. Calling 999 again I was told the message had been passed on, but the only way to get through to North Yorks Police was to dial 101, then choose which area!

Thought it seemed familiar! Reading in "new posts" I hadn't looked back to see where it started.

Maybe it's a bump of an antique thread... but I never saw it the first time round and it has some interesting points in it

It's no problem adding to it, was just suggesting they looked at previous posts before commenting!
