• Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

Wild flowers

Bog cotton (Eriophorum angustifolium) above Gaping Gill (and the tents of the BPC)

A few from around Burrington Combe, Mendip today.

Not sure about this one, thinking the flower might be vetch and leaf from another plant.

If you look very closely you can see a Herb Robert flower to the left of the green plant, Millar's quarry cave.

Those leaves might be salad burnet?

They're not in flower yet, but there are some impressive clumps of hemlock water dropwort in this stream feeding into Derwentwater. Probably enough in this one to wipe out the population of a small town…

Sounds lovely. According to Wikipedia:

It was purportedly used for the ritual killing of elderly people and criminals in Nuragic Sardinia. The subjects were intoxicated with the herb and then dropped from a high rock or beaten to death.

Google lens suggests the white flowered one is watercress, I've not seen it in the wild before so not sure!
Yes, agree Watercress

I always thought Dog Rose didn’t have a scent, but googling suggests I’m wrong

I agree with Lankyman this looks like one of the Burnets, probably Salad Burnet. The only other conceivable thing would be Burnet Saxifrage. The flower doesn’t look quite right for vetch - I wonder whether it’s Milkwort again.
Yes, Milkwort

It's actually summer now (cue return to heavy rain and cooler temperatures). Lots of cow parsley beside the swollen River Conder flowing towards the Lune.

Is that Cow Parsley and not one of the streamside-living umbellifers? Has anyone else come across the name “Mother die” for Cow Parsley?

Hogweed (not the giant sort)? I just checked online and it's also known as cow parsnip.
