Where are these - from the glimpses of background I'm thinking Lakes or North Wales perhaps?A couple of autumnal flowers- Devil's-bit scabious and western gorse. Western gorse is far rarer than the common European gorse and only grows on the western side of the country. It flowers in the autumn and isnt really a flower of the limestones other than on sea cliffs. View attachment 27885

Thanks. My book says it has 'medicinal value' as a diuretic and laxative. A fun addition to a salad?I think your pale blue flower is Chicory?
I wonder if it had the same effect when used as ersatz coffee? I vaguely recall seeing it in the shop attached to my uncle's bakery in King's Lynn when I was quite young (late 1950's) sold under a brand called Camp.Thanks. At my boarding school around 1970 it was served in the evenings. I have no idea why.I vaguely recall seeing it in the shop attached to my uncle's bakery in King's Lynn when I was quite young (late 1950's) sold under a brand called Camp.
With a more politically correct label these days.It seems an updated version is still sold.
My grandma used to drink this with a pinch of salt. She said it gave it a rounder taste.I wonder if it had the same effect when used as ersatz coffee?
